Boy, that is so true! I remember being involved in so many sports when I was younger. It may be that they are cutting so many PE and Sports funds through California, the kids just don't get too involved in it? I remember PE being a different sport every week. Hearing about what my sister does in PE, makes me almost feel jealous, but then I would have never found my love for the Bball. :) kids are cute though, gotta love em.

Keep in mind, though. They are in 1st grade haha

I had to laugh reading this post. Today I was subbing in a 2nd grade class. So I was also out playing thetherball with them during P.E. One of the kids I was playing kept stopping the ball. I was like ok if i'm going to play we are playing right. NO CATCHING THE BALL! For then on the kids were like if you want to play Ms. Mayes no stopping the ball. LOL

Candace told me that you passed your RICA. So how far are you with your student teaching? I finish the end of May. Finally done. I graduate in June with my Credential/Masters Degree. Best of luck. The educational profession is very rewarding.

i read your post and felt a little sad. kids these days are Such couch potatoes! i LIVED to go play outside, even if i was kinda on the prissy side. now, i hardly see kids out and about anymore. WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO?? :o))

Keri, after my jump rope stint at school, I pulled out my jump rope the other night and jumped to my heart's content! Very fun, indeed.

Janell, I plan to help them! Only, most school districts do not allow much time for PE. Can you believe that students develop motor skills by "cutting with scissors"? Argh. Shel Silverstein!! I LOVE HIM! I must go dig out my copy of "Where the Sidewalk Ends"!

Miss Lockett, you need to help these poor kids get off their tushes and play sports better! sounds pretty sad!
I remember when I was in grade school, that you fumble the tetherball once, and yes you're outta thereeeee!
Also, my mom always had to patch up my hands because I was on the monkey bars so much I wore holes through my hands and kept popping the blisters! ha! I was tough as a little kid!
Our teacher gave us a photo-copied book by Shel Silverstein (where the sidewalk ends) which was full of jump rope poems/songs. That's all we did!
Weird how kids aren't into that stuff anymore. They need it!

Oh man! I LOVED thetherball!!! Also, now that you mention it, I think I may go buy a jump rope and do some jumping! It sounds so fun right now.
